Lansing Family Fun is where the fun's at! Spending a winter day sledding and tubing is a pastime that seems to never get old. Lansing is so lucky to be surrounded by sledding hills of all kinds. Hawk Island Park is an Ingham County Park located within the city of Lansing.
Hawk Island County Park is a 100-acre park, located on Cavanaugh Road, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Aurelius Road, in south Lansing is the newest park in our system. The park has activities for all seasons.
No snow? No problem! Hawk Island is a top Lansing winter destination known for its winter tubing, attracting people from all over the area. For anyone needing a break from the cold, the warming shack is stocked with snacks, hot chocolate, and s’more supplies.

What to Expect at Hawk Island
From the beautiful snowy trails to the incredible snow tubing, you can spend an entire day here. Hawk Island’s hills are groomed specifically for snow tubing and riders will speed down one of many thrilling 16 ft wide sculpted snow lanes to drop 50-60 feet over a course of 500-600 feet. The sledding hill has a lift to take participants to the top and tube down. A magic carpet uphill conveyor lift transports riders to the top of the hill and snow making machines are used to extend the time the snow tubing hill can be used. The snow tubing setup is really great and staffed with nice professional people.

Hawk Island offers a swimming beach, Splash Pad®, picnic areas and shelters, paved accessible walkways (1.5 miles) and fishing docks. This is such a nice park for kids in the summer. Come check out the community-built playground. The splash pad is perfect for the hot summer months. In the winter, bring the family and enjoy snow tubing! Then warm up and take a break in the warming lodge.
Please note there is a vehicle entrance fee to enter Hawk Island year round. Dogs are allowed at Hawk Island with the exception of the area between the playground and the concession stand, which comprises the beach and Splash Pad® area. Tickets: Tickets will be going on sale on December 11th for the 2026 season.
Please Note: Make sure your little one is ready for Hawk Island tubing. There is no age limit for children, however lap-riders are not permitted.

Hours of Operation:
The park opens one half hour before sunrise for pedestrian access and 8:00am for vehicle access. The park closes at sunset, unless otherwise posted. Winter hours may vary depending on snow conditions, please call 517-676-2233 for specific winter hours. The park closes at 5pm on Christmas Eve and closed on Christmas day.
Questions? Had a long wait time though. It has a nice small lake, sledding hill, picnic tables, pavilions, and play ground equipment.
Snow tubing is very popular but not easy to find in metro Detroit. Hawk Island in Lansing is an easy drive if you’re lucky enough to get tickets for this family favorite winter activity.

- Burchfield Park: Located in Holt, just south of Lansing, Burchfield Park offers two sledding hills: a big one and a little one. No reservations are required to sled at Burchfield Park. Tube rentals are available throughout the winter generally Friday - Sunday depending on weather conditions. The smaller hill is ideal for littles and is a hop, skip, and jump away from the parking lot. There you can bring your favorite sled from home and go down as many times as you like. The big hill is for the more daring and is a short hike away from the parking lot. While you’re at Burchfield Park, cozy up by the wood-burning fire pit, grab a cup of cocoa in their winter snack bar when it’s open, and warm up in the winter warming lodge. This annual pass is $40 for Ingham County residents and $50 for non-residents for 2026.
