With a giant Christmas tree covered in lights and festive music playing, it is Pittsburgh skating.

Schenley Park Ice Rink
Schenley Park has entertained ice skaters and hockey players since 1975. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy taking in the towering pine trees in Schenley Park while gliding across the ice. The ice rink in Schenley Park unites skaters of all levels, providing a vast space for making laps and performing advanced tricks. Why not make a day of it? Make your way to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, where lush greenery and whimsical floral displays await.
- The Schenley rink is open daily through Saturday, Feb. 28, but free skate hours vary.
- Admission: $6 for adults and $3 for patrons under 17.

North Park Ice Rink
Based in North Park, this outdoor ice skating rink will make a scenic outing with a woodsy backdrop. Glide across a spacious area, making laps around the rink or practicing new tricks in the center. The North Park Ice Skating Rink can be enjoyed by visitors from mid-November to mid-March. Don’t miss bringing your little ones to engaging ice skating lessons and hockey programs, or rent the rink for a private celebration.
- Allegheny County’s spending freeze caused by the state budget impasse has caused their openings to be delayed until Saturday, Dec. 20.
- Admission starts at $5.
- North Park Ice Rink offers ice skating and hockey skating lessons for guests of all ages.
South Park Ice Rink
Located in South Park, this ice skating rink is a scenic stroll from the Oliver Miller Homestead, an 18th-century home and public museum.
- While the North and South Park rinks are normally open by now, Allegheny County’s spending freeze caused by the state budget impasse has caused their openings to be delayed until Saturday, Dec. 20.
- Admission starts at $5.
- With an NHL-sized rink and skate trail, this Allegheny County park offers visitors several programs for skaters like ice skating and hockey skating lessons for guests of all ages.
Allegheny County is no longer offering a season pass for skating at the North and South Park ice rinks. Both ice rinks offer several ice skating and hockey programs for ages three and older.

UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex

The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is the practice and training facility for the Pittsburgh Penguins and hosts a range of activities from public skating to hockey leagues. Public skating sessions are typically held on the weekends with seasonal sessions featuring holiday-focused fun, including Easter and St. Patrick’s Day skating events.

Mt. Lebanon Ice Center
Based in the Mt. Lebanon neighborhood, this ice rink features a main rink for public use and a studio rink for private events. Planning a family-friendly birthday party? Rent Mt. Lebanon Ice Center’s studio rink, where party goers will enjoy special celebrations at an exclusive rink.
