Other Snow Tubing Locations to Consider
- Big Snow: Welcome to North America’s first and only indoor, real-snow, year-round ski and snow resort. At Big Snow, we know how to make a first date spicier, how to bring family fun to new levels, and we’ve got the secret for cranking those birthday-party sugar highs to 11. Host the coolest birthday party ever. Pun intended. Let our friendly and professional instructors help you get the most out of your time on snow. Check out the fastest growing winter sport. SN0-GO is one of the funnest and easiest ways to get sliding on snow. In fact it’s as easy as riding a bike.
- Blue Mountain: Why families love it: Blue Mountain bills itself as the biggest snow tubing park in the country, with 46 lanes and three lifts. Our favorite Blue Mountain perk, though, is this: You can choose between riding a single tube or double the fun and go down two at a time in a double tube. Parking, food, and tickets: Tickets are sold by 2-hour sessions and run from 9am to 9pm Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (closed Christmas Day). All tickets must be purchased in advance online. Families can also enjoy the Après Snow Tubing area, which does not require a Snow Tubing ticket.
- Camelback's Galactic Snow Tubing: Why families love it: If the prospect of flying down a snow-packed slope at a fast (but totally safe) speed is exhilarating, picture doing it at night amid an LED light show. That's Camelback's Galactic snow tubing. Insider tips for visiting with kids: Most parks require a single rider per tube, but here, tubers under 44 inches tall (but at least 33 inches tall) can ride with a parent using a double tube or chain.
- Shawnee Mountain: Why families love it: Shawnee is the closest of any of the Pennsylvania parks to New Jersey. It's also one of the smallest parks at seven lanes-in case you're harboring a fear of humiliating yourself in front of large crowds. Insider tips for visiting with kids: Kids under 46 inches can ride in a tandem tube with a parent. Kids must be at least 4 to snow tube, and they offer smaller tubes kids can carry themselves. Got a younger sibling that can't tube yet? Hit the Mini Monster section ($10/ticket) for kids under 8, featuring Snowball Wall, seating benches, puzzle blocks, climbers, balancers, gliders, and sleds. Parking, food, and tickets: Sessions are 1.5 hours long and are at specific times.
What to Wear for Snow Tubing
It's always a good idea to dress in layers and wear a waterproof winter jacket, hats, gloves, snow pants, snow boots, and a double layer of warm socks. Bring some dry clothes (including socks and shoes) for the ride home.
HERE’S WHAT WE RECOMMEND IN THE COLDER MONTHS
Pants: Insulated snow pants and a snug fitting base layer (long underwear) are highly recommended for your comfort. By the way, don’t tuck your pants into your boots. Snow pants are designed to fit over the tops of your boots. The only things that go inside your boots are your feet and your socks. Good waterproof pants are invaluable!
- Tops: A long-sleeved shirt (a turtle neck is a great idea) with a sweater and medium weight jacket offers a variety of options should the temperature change on the ski resort. On very cold days, a layer of long underwear worn on the upper body is a great insulator and may always be removed if conditions warrant. A winter jacket with armpit vents can be very effective at regulating body temperature.
- Cover your head! Your body loses 80% of its heat through your head. A hat is essential! A warm wool or fleece hat is ideal. Don’t sweat “hat hair”… you can fix it after the last run and before you head out for drinks and dinner.
- Footwear: Wear one pair of light to medium weight socks! Also we recommend you wear boots/warm waterproof shoes. Your boots are designed to keep you warm. Don’t cut off circulation to your toes or start your feet sweating with heavy socks. You may want to bring an extra pair to swap out during the day to keep you comfortable.
- Gloves/Mittens: Personal preference rules here. Generally, mittens are warmer but restrict dexterity. Glove liners (available in our shop) are a viable option for some. Boarders tend to prefer long, waterproof mittens. Hand warmers (also available in our shop) are single-use pouches that produce heat for several hours and are used inside gloves or mittens.
- Neck Wear: Leave the long woolen scarf your grandmother knit for you at home. You’re much better off with a neck warmer, a non-allergenic fleece tube that slips over the head and keeps your neck toasty warm. This wonderful, inexpensive piece of apparel is actually long enough to be pulled up to cover your chin, mouth and nose.
- Winter Weather: Insulated long underwear or base layer is priceless. The best ones are made of high-tech synthetic materials, but inexpensive cotton-poly blends work fine as well.
HERE’S WHAT WE RECOMMEND IN THE COLDER MONTHS
- Base Layers- Under your snow gear to keep you insulated.
- Winter Socks- Tall socks that reach just below the knee.
- Additional Layers- To go over the base layers for further insulation and warmth.
- Winter Jacket/Snow Pants- Waterproof, insulated material.
Tips for Planning Your Snow Tubing Trip
Make sure to reserve in advance, especially on weekends, since this popular activity books up fast. Most mountains are open through spring, depending on the weather.
It depends! If you want to beat the crowds, go on a weekday and avoid holidays. Bring your own snacks and choose off-peak hours.
