Total Package Hockey (TPH) Tournament: History and Rules

Total Package Hockey (TPH) Events organizes premier hockey events in various locations, including Nashville, Atlanta, Huntsville, and Grand Rapids. These events feature divisions for AAA, AA, and A level teams from around the world. Whether it's competitive hockey with a mix of entertainment or a season kick off, TPH prioritizes competition, safety, and smooth events.

Tournament Structure and Rules

Many TPH tournaments follow a specific structure to ensure fair competition and maximum participation. Here's a breakdown of the typical tournament format:

Eight-Team Division

• Eight teams in total are divided into two divisions: A and B.
• The four teams in each division play each other once, resulting in a total of three games per team.
• The top two teams from each division advance to the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals and Championship

• The semi-final games pit the 1st place team from Division A against the 2nd place team from Division B, and the 1st place team from Division B against the 2nd place team from Division A.
• The winners of the semi-final games advance to the championship.

The team receiving a penalty will lose one man during the five on five and four on four. Penalties given during the overtime periods are one minute in duration.

Tie-Breaking Procedures

When teams are tied in points, tie-breaking rules are applied to determine the final standings. Each seed (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.) is determined one at a time, starting with the 1st seed. Once the 1st seed is determined, the process is repeated with the remaining teams, beginning with head-to-head results.

Here's how the tie-breaking process works:

1. Initial Tie: All three teams are tied with 4 points apiece (Rule1).
2. Head-to-Head (Rule 2): Head to head is applied.
3. Example 1: If three teams are tied and team 1 beats team 2, and team 3 did not play either team 1 or 2, team 2 would be removed from that round of seeding, and team 1 and 3 would still be considered tied. We then use least goals against to break the tie between team 1 and 3. During the next seeding round team 2 would be reconsidered for placement.
4. Example 2: Here is another example, three teams are tied with four points. In head to head play team 1 beats team 2, and team 3 tied both team 1 and team 2, and team 1 has 8 goals against, team 2 has 10, and team 3 has 9. Under this scenario, all three teams are tied with 4 points apiece (Rule1), so head to head (Rule 2) is applied. Since team 1 beat team 2, 2 team is eliminated from that round of seeding and team 1 and 3 remain tied. To break the tie we move to least goals against (Rule 3). Since team 1 has 8 goals against vs. team 3's 9, team 1 is awarded the higher seed.

Note:Each seed (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.) is determine one at a time starting with the 1st seed. Once the 1st seed is determined we repeat the process with the remaining teams starting with head to head.

To ensure quality hotel availability and the best rates, ALL out-of-town teams are required to book accommodations through our partner, Welcome Travel Services. Booking early is highly recommended due to limited availability. The remaining tournament fees are due 90 days before the tournament starts.

• Lake Placid Youth Hockey Tournament: Relive the Olympic Hockey feeling in the home of the Miracle on Ice. Enjoy perfect downhill skiing at Whiteface Mountain. Catch a glimpse of international events such as ski jumping, speed skating, bobsledding, dogsledding and luge.
• NGHL Winter Classic, Futures East - January 2-4, 2026: Part of NGHL’s Futures Division, focuses on fostering the growth and development of young female hockey players in a competitive and supportive environment.
• St. Andrew Irving Mite Jamboree: This is one of the hottest events on ice in January, so don't miss out!! We typically host approximately 30 teams each year coming from Vermont, Quebec, New York and the rest of New England.
• 12U Sap Bucket tournament: All games are played at Riley Rink. Manchester Vermont has several lodging options from budget-friendly hotels to 4-star resorts and spas.
• OneHockey Minnesota Gone Wild MLK Day Weekend: 5 GAMES MIN + FREE OUTDOOR SCRIMMAGE! ALL TEAMS WILL PLAY A GAME ON MONDAY!! All finals will be Monday! THE LATEST GAME WILL END BY 5:00 PM ON MONDAY!!
