Ice Skating Lessons at Cabin John Ice Rink: Learn to Skate and Have Fun!

Cabin John Ice Rink offers group lessons for skaters age 3 and older, for every level of ability. Learn how to skate in a fun, safe environment with professional skating coaches to help you achieve your ice skating goals. These classes start with basic skating skills focusing on building a foundation of progressive skills to variations of hockey and figure skating skills.

Adults and children can learn to skate and improve their skills through the group lessons we offer.

Instructional Support

Ice Skating Instructional Assistants provide the extra hands necessary to provide high quality instruction and improve student success and enthusiasm for this wonderful sport. Under the supervision of the Cabin John Ice Skating Director, Instructional Assistants are assigned to help Group Lesson Instructors in the "Learn to Skate" program, which include lessons, clinics, and camps.

Duties and Responsibilities of Instructional Assistants:

  1. Assist the Ice Rink's Group Lesson Instructor during class time.
  2. Demonstrate specific skills as requested by the instructor.

The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety.

Here's what you need to know about the classes:

  • 30-minute group lessons start at $120 per series (six 30-minute lessons).
  • 45-minute group lessons start at $180 per series (six 45-minute lessons).
  • Lesson fee includes skate rental for each lesson and a practice card good for public skating sessions to practice.

Fees cannot be prorated. There are no make-ups or refunds for missed lessons.

Classes with less than 3 participants will either be refunded or combined with another class.

Important Notes:

  • Wear one pair of thin socks.
  • Helmets are required for all Preschool classes, Youth Ice Skating 1, and Teen and Adult Ice Skating 1 classes. Bike helmets are fine.
  • Ask for skates that are size smaller than your shoe size.

Lace up your skates and join us in celebrating National Skating Month at Cabin John Ice Rink!

  • January 1: Happy New Year! The rink opens at noon today. Public skating sessions are from 12:30-2:30 pm, 4:30-6:15 pm, and 8:30-10 pm (Adult Skate). It is also the last day to register for Winter 1 group lessons!
  • January 3: Winter 1 classes begin.
  • January 4: Pro Shop Special: 15% off apparel (in stock items only).
  • January 8: Snack Bar Special: $2 pretzels.
  • January 9: Pro Shop Special: $8 skate sharpening (48-hour turnaround).
  • January 10: Super Saturday Expo. Stop by the party room from 10 am-2 pm and learn all about our summer camps and other ice rink programs.
  • January 15: Snack Bar Special: $1.50 hot chocolate.
  • January 16: Gr8 to Sk8 Day: $8 admission to our public skating session from 4:30-6:15 pm!
  • January 17: Pro Shop Special: 15% off skates (in stock items only).
  • January 18: Pro Shop Special: 15% off hockey sticks (in stock items only).
  • January 19: School’s out Skate Day (registration required). Join us for a public skating session today as the rink is open for normal hours.
  • January 20: Summer camp registration opens at 6:30 am.
  • January 22: Gr8 to Sk8 Day: $8 admission to our public skating session from 4:30-6:15 pm!
  • January 23: Skate and Story Day. Join us for the Parent and Tot session at 11 am. $5 admission covers a child age 3-4 and a parent to skate for the session (including skate rental). After skating, visit the party room for a story about ice skating and some crafts.
  • January 24: Olympic Saturday. Get in the spirit by posing on our podiums during public skating for a selfie! Be sure to stop by and write a good luck message to our local Team USA Olympians!
  • January 25: Pro Shop Special: $8 skate sharpening (48-hour turnaround).
  • January 26: School’s out Skate Day (registration required). Join us for a public skating session today as the rink is open for normal hours.
