Early Season Preparations

While it is still too early to begin flooding, preparations have begun for this season’s outdoor ice rinks. The asphalt bases of the hockey rinks have been blown out and drains are being sealed. To begin flooding both types of rinks, multiple inches of frost in the ground and multiple days of sustained, single-digit temperatures are required. In a typical year with typical conditions, this means outdoor rinks open sometime in mid-late December. As of now, we expect to be consistent with that timeline.

December 3, 2025: While it is still too early to begin flooding, preparations have begun for this season’s outdoor ice rinks. The asphalt bases of the hockey rinks have been blown out and drains are being sealed.

December 5, 2025: Park Maintenance cleared the rinks and began flooding late last week. There is still a long way to go, but they were able to remove all snow and are in a good position to continue building ice. Snowfall has slowed progress, as it created slushy conditions on the surface. At this time, all rinks are covered with ice, but they are not yet ready for skating.

December 9, 2025: Park Maintenance cleared the rinks and completed another round of flooding yesterday. However, snow we received and additional snow in the forecast will slow down progress.

December 11, 2025: Our crews continue to work hard to prepare the outdoor skating rinks for the upcoming season. Staff have been clearing snow and flooding the rinks as weather conditions allow, and warming houses are being delivered today. While we’re making steady progress, current ice conditions are not yet ready for skating. We’ll continue to monitor the weather and ice quality over the coming days and will open the rinks once they are safe and ready for use.

December 15, 2025: Warming houses are now fully hooked up. A significant amount of ice has been made, and rink conditions continue to improve.

Local hockey associations utilize one hockey rink at each location for team hockey practices daily.

Rink Closure

December 26, 2025: All city ice rinks are closed until further notice due to warm temperatures. We will post updates when temperatures return to sustained single-digit temperatures.

Future Developments

In the past, City Center Park has featured ice rinks. The reduction is temporary, as the new family rink at City Center Park is expected to open for the 2026-2027 skating season and will be located over the green space north of the Performance Pavilion.
