Early Career and WHL Success

Before turning professional, Wright spent five seasons with the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL. In 256 career games, he registered 103 points (15 goals, 88 assists) and served as an alternate captain in his final seasons.

During Wright’s final three seasons in the WHL, the Saskatoon Blades were coached by Brennan Sonne who now serves an Assistant Coach for the Firebirds. Wright also appeared in 39 postseason games with the organization. A product of Olds, Alta., Wright played his minor hockey for the Red Deer Rebels and Northern Alberta X-Treme.

Wright is known for establishing his gap early and guiding the attack to the outside. He times his engagement at the point of least resistance. Even when he’s making up ground, he still influences the puck carrier’s options. With the puck in friendly hands, Wright joins the rush. He sprints ahead to back off defenders and create space for his teammates or provides short-range support as the trailer.

Transition to Professional Hockey

Wright is currently in his rookie professional season, having played in 23 games with the Kansas City Mavericks. During that time, the 21-year-old defenseman has recorded 3 goals and 9 assists for 12 points.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds have re-signed defenseman Charlie Wright to a one-year deal, it was announced earlier this week. Wright, who finished his first pro season in 2024-25, split time between the Firebirds and the ECHL's Kansas City Mavericks.

Wright appeared in two games with the Firebirds before rejoining the Mavericks. Across 21 AHL games, Wright registered four assists while scoring four goals and adding 13 assists for 17 points in 35 ECHL regular season games.
