Whether you’re a child or an adult, one of the best things about winter is snow tubing. If you're up for something out-of-the-ordinary, you'll want to consider trying out Massanutten Resort's epic nighttime snow tubing course, known as Northern Lights Tubing.
Massanutten offers a twist to everyone’s favorite wintertime activity! The name is inspired by the Aurora Borealis, which is mimicked by the dazzling colorful lights that decorate the course. You'll have the time of your life as you fly down these runs while enjoying some of the best snow tubing in Virginia. Que the winter season lights and magic!
Pack on the layers and head to the mountain to take an adrenaline-filled ride down these hills.
At night the music is turned on and the kaleidoscope of colorful lights brighten the 900-foot course for an amazing 90-minute experience.

Planning Your Visit
Before you layer up and get into your waterproof boots, there are a couple of things to know in advance. Most nearby resorts require reservations and often sell out, so plan accordingly. Each has its own height requirements.

Hours and Rates
Northern Lights Snow Tubing hours vary depending on sunset time. The effect of the lights can be diminished based on darkness.
Northern Lights Tubing rates are the same as our regular Snow Tubing rates.

Rates
- Monday - Thursday: Starting at $34 (all ages) / per person for 90-minute Session
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday, & Holiday*: Starting at $48 (all ages) / per person for 90-minute Session

Price includes the use of snow tube, tube runs & tube lift. Snow Tubing is offered for 90-minute sessions only.
Purchasing Tickets
Slope-use, equipment rentals, lessons, and snow tubing tickets for the 2025-26 winter season will be available for purchase starting November 1, 2025 (for dates starting December 13, 2025). Early Season tickets will be available for purchase 24 hours prior to Opening Day.

To purchase your Northern Lights Tubing tickets, click the link above and select Snow Tubing. Snow Tubing has a limited number of tickets available per session, per day. Snow Tubing is very popular and regularly sells out.
Snow Tubing tickets for each session are available for purchase online (using widget above). Tickets cannot be reserved or purchased by phone. Please purchase your tickets online in advance, so that your tickets are secured before coming to see us.
Group Rates
Snow tubing tickets are limited and sell out quickly. Once tickets are sold out online, we do not have tickets available in-person.
Groups purchasing 15 or more snow tubing tickets and who meet availability requirements will receive advanced reservations to ensure ticket availability. The group leader will be responsible for purchasing their tickets in advance.
Specials & Events
- $25 Last Tube Special: Mondays - Thursdays | 9 - 10 pm. Enjoy the last hour of snow tubing for only $25 per person. This special must be booked in advance online. This special is NOT offered on holiday dates (Holiday* | December 22, 2025 - January 4, 2026).
- Tubing Rainbow Theme Night: Wednesday, January 7 | 5 - 10 PM. Join us for a colorful night! Wear your brightest colors and tube under rainbow lights.
- JMU Tube & Ski Day: Friday, January 23. Welcome back JMU students! Start this semester off right with a night on the tubing hill or the slopes! Snow Tubing Info - Come tube under the lights at Massanutten Family Adventure Park for $25 each. The 8 pm & 8:30 pm sessions will be DUKES ONLY. Valid JMU student ID will be required to redeem ticket. Ski & Snowboard Info - Show your valid JMU student ID at the ticket window and get a discounted Slope-Use ticket for 4 - 9 pm.
- Tubing Big Game Theme Day: Sunday, February 8 | 9 am - 10 pm. Wear your team jersey on the tubing hill!
Things to Know
- Children must be at least 36 inches tall to tube.
- Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult while at the Family Adventure Park at all times.
- Younger and/or more timid tubers may prefer our mid-day session when track conditions are more moderate.
- Hard shell or ski boots are not permitted in the Tube Park.
- Temperature, wind, and precipitation affect the speed of snow tubing.
- Snowmaking may be in progress as temperatures permit.
- One person allowed per tube, no exceptions.
- Weather and track conditions permitting, we allow "chaining" of tubes at our discretion.
- Each participant must be seated in the tube at all times.
- Tubing on your stomach or any other position is strictly prohibited and will result in expulsion from the Tube Park.
Other Winter Activities at Massanutten Resort
The whole family will enjoy snow tubing and the other winter offerings at this resort. The resort also offers ice skating, snowboarding, and skiing.
Sustainability & RFID Cards
Help reduce waste and minimize the resort’s environmental footprint by properly disposing of your RFID cards after the completion of your session. Simply return your RFID card into the disposal bin, located on the deck beside the stairs, upon completion of your snowtubing session and we will take care of the rest.
