A Multi-Purpose Facility
Hamilton Ice Arena is a multi-purpose facility that hosts the Recreation Department’s Youth Hockey, Learn to Play Hockey, and Learn to Skate programs during fall and winter. It also serves the hockey programs for Rocky River High School and Avon Lake High School, along with various informal groups and rentals.
During the warmer months, the ice is removed and the facility is used as home base for the department’s nine-week Day Camp program as well as a location for a variety of indoor sporting activities. Learn to Skate Program
Improve your skills in our Learn to Skate program. Small group instruction with an emphasis on having fun while learning skating skills. Skating lessons are provided for all ages.
Learn to Play Hockey
Learn To Skate
If you're interested in hockey, try the Learn to Play program. Welcome to our LTP Hockey program! This first step is geared toward new players, ages 4-6 with completion of Snowplow Sam Series LTS.
The second stage in our LTP Hockey progression is geared toward players, ages 6-9 with completion of Level 1. On-ice practices will be Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. We’ll introduce and follow the USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM). Players must provide their own equipment, including skates and a stick.
The final stage in our LTP Hockey progression is geared toward players, ages 7-10 with completion of Level 2. On-ice practices will be Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. In December, players get divided into teams, beginning the transition into the Youth Hockey Program with their own practice and game schedule (days and times TBD). Players must provide their own equipment, including skates and a stick.

Youth Hockey Program
The Recreation Department is excited to celebrate over 30 years of excellence in hockey and skating programs! Our youth program has consistently been a standout in the community, providing a dynamic environment for young athletes to learn the skills of hockey and skating while having fun.
With expert coaching and state-of-the-art facilities, kids can enjoy everything from beginner lessons to competitive play. Whether they dream of scoring the winning goal or gliding gracefully on ice, our program offers a fantastic opportunity for growth, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.
RRYH is run by the City of Rocky River Recreation Department and emphasizes the teaching of fundamental hockey skills, discipline, sportsmanship and a commitment to develop each player to their maximum ability level. RRYH is a member of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL). We utilize the American Development Model (ADM) created by USA Hockey.

Other Ice Skating Options: MetroParks Ice Rink
If you're looking for another ice skating option, consider the MetroParks Ice Rink at RiverScape MetroPark. The MetroParks Ice Rink at RiverScape MetroPark opens each year on the Friday after Thanksgiving and remains open daily through February. Extended holiday hours are available in December while the kids are out of school.

Admission is $7, and skate rentals are an additional $3. Skaters aged 3 and younger are free with a paying adult. The heat is on thanks to the MSD Warming Zone. Now you can warm up as you wait to pick up your skates or in between figure 8s on the MetroParks Ice Rink. Warm up in the comfort tent located near the Café at the MetroParks Ice Rink.
