Can You Use One Helmet for Both Winter and Water Sports?
This question is quite often asked in the Internet forums and the reasons are clear - everyone wants to save some money if it is possible. But using one helmet for both winter and water sports may be not a very good idea and let us explain why. The protection required in snowboarding and kayaking differ, and the standards for helmets differ as well. Winter helmets are tested for “faster speed” impacts and colder conditions, while water helmets are tested for “slower speed” impacts and warmer conditions. And it’s hardly possible to find a helmet that fulfills both standards. Why not use a snow helmet for water sports if it seems to be more resistant? Still, there are some troubles.
Real-World Performance
Just like the original Sandbox helmet, the outer shell is thin, hard plastic, which basically means it’s indestructible. Basically, they took the old liner out and put a new certified hard foam liner in it’s place. So how does the helmet perform with the new liner? From the outside, you can’t tell the helmet apart from the original soft liner Sandbox helmet. I went with the small/medium fit and was able to get a nice snug fit after swapping out some of the fitting pads. This helmet is stylish and well made. Fits well with and without a hood balaclava.

I have a big head and the size large is just big enough to wear a beanie , googles underneath the helmet. Also, the brim and low profile look is modern and dope. this is a great and comfortable helmet. only got to use it for 2 days on my trip until i took a nasty fall. my head if great but my acl is not.
Sizing Issues
Instead of advertised 18-option padding, this helmet came with a single full helmet pad. Making the size large shell too small. Would need an X-Large, which they don't offer. I've always worn a size M in helmets. From Anon, to Protec, to Smith, all size M. This Sandbox helmet fits small. I would suggest buying a size up from your regular size. I really like the design but ultimately had to return due to sizing. Also, it made my head look really big and round. Hopefully Sandbox can improve the design next year. This of course is not Tactics fault.
