Sun & Ski Sports is a United States-based specialty sporting goods retail company headquartered in Stafford, Texas. Established in 1980, Sun & Ski Sports has grown to 32 stores across 12 American states. In 2012, Sun & Ski Sports changed ownership. As of 2022, Sun & Ski Sports operates out of 32 locations across the United States. Their headquarters is in Stafford, Texas, right outside of Houston.

Sun & Ski Sports first arrived in the New England region a year ago with the acquisition of the Joe Jones store in North Conway, N.H. Then, the company opened in a former Ski Market shop in Avon, Conn. The company’s latest foray into New England took place when it opened a Joe Jones’ Sun & Ski Sports store in a former Ski Market location overlooking Route 3 in Pembroke.
Sun & Ski Sports CEO and founder Barry Goldware said about 30 part- and full-time workers were hired for the 16,000-square-foot store. Goldware said his company undertook extensive renovations, essentially gutting the store and installing new wall and floor coverings and packing the place with inventory. In addition to skiing equipment, the store sells clothing and accessories for snowboarding, cycling, water sports and running.
New stores that the company opens here will most likely share the Joe Jones’ Sun & Ski Sports name because of the New Hampshire retailer’s reputation in the region, Goldware said. However, he said the Joe Jones part may eventually be phased out.
