Aaron Douglas Ness, born on May 18, 1990, is an American professional ice hockey defenseman currently serving as the captain for the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League (AHL). His journey through the world of hockey is marked by significant achievements and dedication.

Early Career and High School Success
Ness played High School hockey at Roseau High School in Roseau, Minnesota. In 2008, he was honored with the Minnesota Mr. Hockey award, recognizing him as the most outstanding senior high school hockey player in the state. In an effort to be able to play collegiate hockey one year earlier than projected, Ness accelerated his course load during his junior year of high school in order to graduate early.
Aaron's father, Jay, also grew up in Roseau and played collegiate hockey for the University of North Dakota.
Professional Career
- New York Islanders: The New York Islanders agreed to terms on an entry-level contract with Ness on March 11, 2011. The Isles Defense faced an injury as Dallas came calling on December 15, 2011.
- Washington Capitals: Ness's career continued as the Washington Capitals signed Carter Camper, Aaron Ness, Mike Moore, and Sean Collins on July 1, 2015. The Capitals re-signed defenseman Aaron Ness to a two-way deal on May 16, 2018. Ness and Siegenthaler were recalled from Hershey by the Capitals on November 9, 2018.
- Arizona Coyotes: The Arizona Coyotes signed Miele, Ness, and Bennett on July 1, 2019.
- Return to Hershey Bears: Aaron Ness returned to Hershey on July 5, 2022. On October 23, 2024, the Hershey Bears named Aaron Ness as their Captain.
AHL All-Star and Calder Cup Wins
Ness was named to the 2018-19 American Hockey League First All-Star Team. The Hershey Bears have had remarkable success, winning their 12th Calder Cup. Hershey won the Calder Cup again proving it sweeter by the dozen.
