Big Sky Resort is 7 miles from Big Sky’s Town Centre and about 50 minutes from Bozeman (pop. 40,000) and the entrance to West Yellowstone National Park. It is in the Madison Mountain Range which is part of the Rocky Mountains. To get there, the Skyline Bus runs from Bozeman to Big Sky, as well as around the town of Big Sky to Big Sky Resort. Staff at the mountain come from all over the United States. One thing about Big Sky Resort and Montana in general is people are so friendly. The staff are not drawn from a large city, so the people who work at Big Sky Resort are here because they love it. Boyne is a wonderful company to work for. Big Sky Resort prefers to invest in their employees by promoting from within.

Winter jobs are posted in August. There are lots of seasonal jobs for people looking to come in and you could still find work if you arrived during the season, given that there are 1400 winter staff. Other resorts in Big Sky are the Yellowstone Club, Lone Mountain Ranch, and Spanish Peak’s Mountain Club which look for seasonal employees.

Big Sky Resort also operates the majority of the restaurants, lodging, shops, and activities in the village.

Full time staff receive a free ski pass and part time staff receive a ski pass for $250. There is employee housing for 350 employees, which is first come first serve. In winter, there are normally 1400 employees. Cost of staff housing is $7.50 per day or about $225 per month with $300 initial deposit.

Popular bars for younger staff include Milkie’s, the Broken Spoke, Scissorsbills and Choppers. Popular with older employees are Ousal & Spur Pizza Company, Carabiner, Jack Creek Grill, ByWOM (By Word of Mouth), and Olive B’s. Doesn’t matter what age you are, people enjoy Whiskey Jack’s, Lone Peak Brewery, First Place, and the Lone Peak Cinema which has a full bar inside. Bozeman is a college town home to Montana State University with a ton of bars and nightlife.

Housekeeping Floor Supervisor

The Floor Supervisor in Housekeeping is responsible for supervision of the day-to-day functions of the department ensuring excellent customer service and adherence to the department’s requirements and standards. This role will contribute to the organization as an active business partner that is responsible for supporting the company's goals, objectives, vision, mission, and values. The Floor Supervisor thoroughly inspects assigned areas in order to provide feedback to management and associates on the cleanliness and maintenance of those areas against standards. Providing supervision, coaching and training to House Attendants, Public Area Attendants and Room Attendants. When involved in guest room inspections and corrections need to be made, ensuring the prompt return of clean rooms to reception for incoming guests.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a hotel housekeeping function

Housekeeping Jobs

Storeroom Clerk

The Storeroom Clerk will be responsible for ordering and receiving all orders to ensure proper intake of items ordered and storage of those shipments. This role will contribute to the organization as an active business partner that is responsible for supporting the company's goals, objectives, vision, mission, and values.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver outstanding service to both internal and external customers.
  • Ensure delivery vehicles are clean and free of food debris upon arrival.
  • Verify all incoming shipments against delivery documents, purchase records, and product specifications.
  • Inspect the quality of all received food items, ensuring substandard goods are approved or rejected as necessary.
  • Conduct temperature checks on refrigerated and frozen goods, including delivery truck temperatures.
  • Weigh all items requiring catch weights to confirm accuracy.
  • Uphold integrity and professionalism in interactions with vendors and delivery personnel.
  • Organize and sort goods on pallets based on pre-determined criteria such as weight and box size.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless transitions between receiving and storing goods.
  • Ensure all department goods are delivered to the correct location and validate non-food and beverage deliveries against approved purchase orders.
  • Research or reject unauthorized deliveries.
  • Safely move goods to assigned storage areas using manual or motorized equipment.
  • Apply “Use First” labels to applicable products for efficient stock rotation.
  • Confirm accuracy of inventory requisitions before fulfilling department requests.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and security in loading dock and receiving areas.
  • Regularly monitor product expiration dates and notify the Director of Purchasing of items nearing expiration.
  • Comply with all corporate and local policies, internal controls, and safety protocols specific to the Procurement Department.
  • Verify all invoices and packing slips are received and matched during the check-in process.
  • Document and process credit requests for damaged or refused items, obtaining driver and Receiver signatures.
  • Immediately notify the Director of Purchasing or relevant departments of any discrepancies, returns, shortages, or missed deliveries.
  • Participate in routine cleaning and reorganization of storage areas.
  • Conduct spot checks to ensure inventory levels remain accurate.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards and workplace safety protocols in all storeroom operations.
  • Process all outgoing shipping and scan shipping forms with charges to Front Desk so they can charge guest portfolio
  • Log all incoming packages and deliver the packages to all areas of the resort, using the Qtrak Parcel tracking system.
  • Ensure balance sheet updates are completed by the end of each month.
  • Complete inventory processes efficiently and on schedule.
  • Ensure all Storeroom orders are placed in a timely manner, so that we do not run out of product.
  • Completes any necessary paper flow for the Director of Purchasing.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned.

Storeroom Clerk

Activities Supervisor, Group & Paintbox

Coordinate and ensure a fun and relaxing atmosphere for guests in year-round recreational activities. Provide a fun and safe atmosphere for all children participating in our exclusive children`s program, Paintbox.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of Montage Big Sky and Spanish Peaks, and a high level of understanding of the Yellowstone Club, Big Sky Resort and local area and year-round operations; technical background of outdoor equipment; basic local knowledge of animals/landscapes of the Gallatin River, Forest, and Yellowstone National Park.
  • Creating personalized guest interactions; ensuring accuracy of the ski rental process; overseeing arrival and departure of all guest equipment; maintaining proper record keeping; and ensuring that department cleanliness and organization standards are met.
  • Organize and arrange group functions, capture group revenue and coordinate activities.
  • Coordinate & process POs, payment of invoices, and record-keeping.
  • Assist in end of month inventory, accruals, and financial closing.
  • Coordinate proper procedures of receiving and processing retail inventory and organization of product.
  • Coordinate logistics of all off-site adventures, including staffing, product, and transportation.
  • Developing relationships with 3rd party and offsite vendors used for our programming.
  • Coordinate with F&B for BEOs, picnic lunches and special events for Outdoor Pursuits.
  • Greet guests in a professional manner; inform guests of local mountain conditions, weather, ski trails, lift access points, activities going on and dining option on property and around mountain
  • Take incoming telephone calls and note all information of each call and special requests made by guests.
  • Ensure the smooth flow and logistics of both the summer and winter valet process.
  • Coordinate with Guest Reception on the delivery of activity equipment.
  • Coordinate with concierge on activity requests and billing questions from front office & accounting
  • Support the Paintbox Manager with special projects, programming, and correspondence
  • Produce a safe and fun environment for all children participating in Paintbox activities
  • Arrange and direct programs and daily activities
  • Ensure that all children are participating
  • Greet guests and ensure that all Paintbox information and authorization forms are completed correctly by parents / guardians
  • Assist with the training of new associates and coordinate additional staff members from other departments.
  • Organize and execute all special event activities for special occasions, holidays, summer and winter programs and special requests for groups and social functions.
  • Maintain new procedures for Paintbox operations that improve the guest experience.
  • Properly communicate with the resort staff and resort guests all upcoming programs and offerings within Paintbox and family activities.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Standard Operating Procedure and training program for the Paintbox programs.

Banquets Server

Ensure food and beverages are being served in a professional and timely manner. Assist guests with menu selections, providing recommendations and answering questions about ingredients, preparation methods, and dietary restrictions. Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring special requests or modifications are recorded and communicated to the kitchen staff. Anticipate guest needs throughout the meal service, such as refilling drinks, clearing empty plates, and offering dessert or coffee options. Check in with guests periodically to ensure satisfaction with their meals and address any concerns or issues promptly. Promote menu items, specials, and promotions to guests, using suggestive selling techniques to increase sales and enhance the dining experience. Adhere to all cleaning and safety standards. Attend daily pre-shift meeting. Consistently follow the food & beverage sequence of service with the utmost attention to detail. Deliver on guests’ expectations and have the desire to create WOW moments. Perform additional duties as assigned that may be outside of the normal scope of duties, based on business needs.

Minimum wage in Montana is $7.90 an hour. Big Sky does not accept H2B applications. J-1 visas are accepted but new J-1 staff must be hired through an agency job fair.

Big Sky Resort: Terrain and Activities

Big Sky is the largest ski resort in the United States with 5,750 acres of skiable terrain, a 4,350 vertical drop and it receives and a yearly average of 400” (10m) of powder snow. In all of North America, only Whistler has more skiable terrain. Big Sky was recently combined with Moonlight Basin (now Big Sky’s northern exposure) which took Big Sky to its current massive size.

There is an enormous variety of terrain at Big Sky, including 5 bowls and an access gate to the back country off of Lone Mountain, to keep seasonal workers going for several seasons over on your breaks and days off. But it is the expert terrain that brings a lot of people here. The terrain from the top of the Lone Peak Tram at Lone Peak Mountain (11,150) is steep, technical and adrenaline inducing. Lone Peak is also around 2,000 feet higher than any of the peaks around it, and therefore provides incredible views from the top.

On days where Lone Peak is closed due to wind or snow conditions, you can then head to Moonlight Basin and the Headwater which is north facing and retains its snow quality a little better as packed powder or windbuffed chalk. Bavarian Forest is a nice little gladed area on your right at the bottom of the Liberty Bowl. There are 9 terrain parks split into 3 beginner, 3 intermediate, and 3 advanced.

Big Sky’s higher altitude than surrounding resorts means good snow preservation, although the snowfall is slightly less than at Jackson Hole. Temperatures are very cold at Big Sky.

In the summer, every Wednesday is the farmer’s market and Thursday is the Music in Mountains with amazing bands brought in through the Arts Council of Big Sky.
