Welcome to the exhilarating world of adult hockey! Whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer lacing up your skates for the first time, the Ultimate Adult Hockey League (UAHL) offers a unique and competitive environment. This guide provides essential information, from equipment selection to gameplay strategies, ensuring you're well-prepared to enjoy the game.
Getting Started: Skills and Position
The foundation of hockey lies in skating. It doesn't matter how big you are, it matters how well you can skate. Everything starts from skating - standing, moving, passing, shooting. To improve your skating, take power skating classes, figure skating classes, or simply practice edge drills you find on YouTube. Get out there and rec skate. Whatever, just learn to be as strong on your skates as possible.
When starting out, the position doesn't really matter; center or wing are both fine. As far as positional play, wing is the easiest position to learn and execute well.
Essential Equipment
Investing in the right equipment is crucial for both safety and performance. It is highly recommended to visit your local hockey store (LHS) to get properly fitted for equipment. The staff can provide invaluable knowledge, especially if you're making a significant initial investment. Your priorities should be 1) fit 2) comfort 3) level of play.
Focus your investment on:
- Skates
- Helmet
- Gloves

The Social Side of Hockey
The BHL Cup weekend is an epic level of debauchery every hockey player should experience. It’s a crazy weekend of driving the crease and just tryin' to bury all weekend long. Then you get to kick back and have some sodas with the boys.

Kane Van Gate | St. BHL Cup weekend is an epic level of debauchery every hockey player should experience. Take it from a grizzled, chiseled (and by chiseled I mean Dad bod) BHL vet, if you didn’t pick up the primary helper sleeping in a car you didn’t do it right.
Had an amazing weekend at the BHL Cup, hanging in AZ with some of my best friends eating tacos and playing hockey….
