Cedar Crest High School Field Hockey: A Look at the Program

Recent Games and Achievements

In a recent game, Cedar Crest College Field Hockey earned a significant Colonial States Athletics Conference victory, taking down Lancaster Bible College with a score of 4-1. The Falcons demonstrated their offensive prowess by outshooting the Chargers, taking 25 shots in the contest, with 16 going on target to Lancaster Bible's two shots.

The Black and Yellow earned 27 penalty corners in the match, recording the most in the second quarter with 12. Getting the Falcons on the board in the 10th minute first quarter was freshman Kiley Marone, scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Marone took a short pass from sophomore Samantha Johnson and shot to the bottom left-side of the cage to give the Black and Yellow a 1-0 lead. Cedar Crest would net back-to-back goals to begin the second quarter, the first was scored by Johnson, who tallied her fourth goal of the year in the 17th minute, after she collected a rebound and scored on the lower left side.

Not even a minute later, sophomore Serena Shuler would gather the ball in the circle and attempt a shot that went under the arm of the goalkeeper to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead in the 18th minute. After a scoreless third quarter, Lancaster Bible would be able to capitalize off of a penalty corner in the 53rd minute, to cut the Falcons lead to 3-1.

Two minutes later, in the 55th minute, senior Alexx Miller would blast the ball into the bottom left side of the cage off of a penalty corner taken by freshman Amber Cieri.

Senior Cassandra Reijgers started in cage for the Black and Yellow, and played the first half and did not face a shot. At the start of the second half, freshman Jackie Valadez would step into the cage, and allowed a goal on the lone shot the Chargers took in the second half.

The Falcons will return home on Saturday, October 26 when the host William Paterson University in non-conference action.

Individual Player Highlights

Several players have made significant contributions to the Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team. Kiley Marone, as a freshman, quickly became a key player, leading the team with her eighth goal of the season in a game against Lancaster Bible College.

Samantha Johnson also played a crucial role, scoring her fourth goal of the year in the same game. Serena Shuler contributed with a goal as well, further solidifying the team's offensive capabilities. Senior Alexx Miller added to the score with a well-executed shot off a penalty corner.

Goalie Cassandra Reijgers had a strong first half, facing no shots, while freshman Jackie Valadez gained experience in the second half. These individual efforts highlight the depth and talent within the Cedar Crest College Field Hockey program.

Comparison with Other Teams

In another game, the Albright field hockey team (4-6) traveled to Cedar Crest College (2-9) on Wednesday evening and handled their business over the Falcons winning the game 6-0. Tonight's meeting was the first time the two schools met since the 2016 season.

As a team Albright fired 24 shots placing 19 of them on goal. Chelsea Johnson scored four goals that night for the Lions including a first half hat trick for Albright in an all-around strong game for the Lions. Johnson's four goals in the game ties a school record for most goals in a single game.

Johnson now places her name next to four other individuals to reach four goals in a game in school history. Johnson got the party started just five minutes into the game scoring the first of her four goals in the game. Johnson would complete her first half hat trick, the first hat trick of her career, by the 26th minute of game play.

The offensive attack continued in the second half, leaving no doubt who was the better side. Albright field hockey will begin MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday, October 7 on the road at Stevenson.
