Public Skating at AZ Ice Gilbert

Glide into fun at AZ Ice Gilbert! Our rink welcomes skaters of all ages and abilities for public skating. Check out the calendar below for public skate sessions, lessons, and special events. There's always something exciting happening on the ice!

Important Information for Public Skate Sessions:

  • Prices are good for one public skate session.
  • Skaters must have skates on to be on the ice; no shoes are allowed.
  • For all weekend (Friday night, Saturday All day, Sunday afternoon) sessions, there will be no jumps or spins allowed!

Ice Skating Programs and Lessons

AZ Ice Gilbert offers a variety of programs to cater to different skill levels and interests:

Try Hockey for Free

This class is a one-time free class to try Ice Skating with no obligation. Skaters will receive a 30-minute lesson and rental skates. Perfect for beginners, this fun and supportive session will teach you the basics with help from our expert instructors. No experience needed-just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to glide!

Hockey Programs

AZ Ice has adult/youth ice hockey programs and leagues for players at every level. Youth and Adult House Hockey Leagues teach all aspects of the game of hockey! Skating, puck handling, passing, shooting, and competing!

Travel Hockey is designed for players who are just beginning their journey in playing hockey.

Adult Skills are designed for players who are just beginning their journey in playing hockey.

Mini Mites is an intermediate program that allows skaters to improve their skills and begin playing half-ice games.

If you have gone through one or more of our intro programs then you are ready for the Youth House league! Register here for the current session. The Fall/Winter league runs from October to April and the summer league runs from June to Sept. Our principal purpose is to provide young athletes the opportunity to participate and develop in a positive hockey environment by offering high-quality coaching, practice and skill development, and exposure to advanced competition through participation in high-caliber games and tournaments.

Required gear: Hockey helmet with cage, hockey stick, hockey gloves, elbow pads, shin guards, and any jersey/socks.

Sticktime Sessions

All-Age Sticktimes sessions are available for a skater to come out and work on their stick handling and skating drills. This is the perfect atmosphere to work on skating, stick handling and anything else you desire. Games/ scrimmages will be prohibited on this ice, strictly practice sessions.

Hockey Camps

Hockey Camps are available for the players that would like to come out and join one of our hockey schools.

Initiation Program

Initiation is a doctorate program for beginning hockey players that teaches the fundamentals of the sport.

Advanced Skating Classes

These classes are for intermediate to advanced skaters. Full gear is required, and sticks will be sometimes used but not always. Cost is $15 per class. It is highly encouraged to pre-register in advance online or at Guest Services.

Arizona Prep Hockey League

AZ Ice Gilbert and Peoria are happy to announce our 2023 Arizona Prep Hockey League for players 14 to 18 (2005 Birth year and younger). The purpose of the league is to offer players a competitive league during the spring summer months. AZ Ice staff team coaches will draft teams after evaluation. Teams will be selected to promote equal competition. Evaluations April 2. Registration opens online or in person March 7.

Required gear: Hockey helmet with cage, hockey stick, hockey gloves, elbow pads, shin guards, and any jersey/socks.

Pre-requisites: Cubs or Try Hockey for Free + coach recommendation

Parties and Events

AZ Ice Gilbert has everything to make your birthday planning celebration as smooth as ice. Additional children can be added for $15.00 each. Parties must be paid in full at the time of booking. Cancellations will be re-booked.

We hold fundraisers during our public sessions. Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick a public session time that works best for you.
  2. Set a price for your entrance fee, $10 min.
  3. Advertise your event as much as possible!

Central and southern Arizona may not get a white Christmas, but that doesn't mean there are not a surplus of holiday experiences to enjoy in metro Phoenix. Each year outdoor ice skating rinks pop up across the Valley just in time for the holidays. Indoor ice skating rinks are also available year-round if that's your preference. Each ice rink across the Phoenix area differs in pricing, accommodations, events and hours. Several outdoor rinks pop up seasonally across the valley, including in Scottsdale, Glendale, and Mesa. Indoor ice skating rinks are also available year-round in locations like Phoenix, Gilbert, and Peoria.

Here are a few other ice skating options around Arizona:

  • Fairmont Scottsdale Princess: Christmas at the Princess The Desert Ice Rink encompasses 6,000 square feet of real ice, and the Alpine Skate Trail winds through the heart of the property. A pass for unlimited skating costs $40 in addition to admission to Christmas at the Princess. Fridays-Sundays, Nov. 21 through Jan 3. Admission is $32; parking is an extra $32.
  • Skate Westgate in Glendale The real-ice rink at Skate Westgate is back at the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale. All skill levels are welcome, and tickets can be purchased near the rink in Fountain Park. Admission with skate rentals for adults and children is $30, $25 if you bring your own skates. Toddlers with shoe sizes between 9T and 12T can skate for $25. Saturdays, Nov. 7 through Jan. 12.
  • Winter Wonderland Ice Rink in Mesa Boasting 6,000 square feet of real ice, the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink is at City Plaza at Mesa City Center. Admission includes one hour on the ice and your skate rental; there's no discount if you bring your own skates. Saturdays-Sundays. Nov. 28 through Jan 10. $11 for one hour; includes skate rental. everyday, Dec. 20-Jan 4.
  • Desert Farm Lights Ice Rink in Surprise Enjoy a Christmas experience encompassed by the desert with this outdoor skate rink. The rink is located on a 13 acre lot with lights and Christmas attractions along the property. Admission includes a 45 minute skate time for $12 each, including skate rentals. Personal skates are not permitted on the rink. Ages three and up are welcome on the ice, however skate assist devices are first come first serve for beginner skaters. Friday-Saturday. Nov. 21 through Dec. 28.
  • AZ Ice in Arcadia, Gilbert and Peoria If you prefer to skate indoors, AZ Ice has three indoor ice skating locations that offer public skating year-round. The Arcadia location has one ice surface, a restaurant, bar and coffee shop. The Gilbert and Peoria locations each have two ice surfaces, two restaurants and a bar. Public skate times vary daily.   • Ice Den Chandler/Scottsdale The Scottsdale location features three NHL regulation ice surfaces while the Chandler location has two. For public skating, reserve your day and time online in advance. Registration opens 48 hours ahead and closes when it hits capacity or one hour prior to the session.
