NEST Hockey Academy: Nurturing Excellence On and Off the Ice

NEST Hockey Academy is dedicated to the purposeful development of student-athletes, focusing not only on hockey skills but also on character and academic excellence. Since its inaugural 2022-2023 season, the academy has witnessed tremendous growth in its student-athletes, both on and off the ice.

Through years of growth, NEST Hockey Academy has continued to focus not only on the development of good hockey players, but quality people through exceptional leadership and guidance. The caring staff pours into each student athlete, guiding them along their journey of finding his or her value in Christ and identifying strengths and weaknesses to foster development as a person.

Hockey Development Programs

At Nest Hockey Academy, we believe that the product gained in hockey and academics is determined by the quality of effort put in. Our coaches have developed 5th-12th grade hockey curriculums that guide Nest athletes unit by unit from day one through to graduation.

Each school day, the focus is on three developmental areas of the game:

  • Technical & tactical skills
  • Skating development
  • Team play

Nest student-athletes will improve in these areas through purposeful training that teaches motor skills, retention, and practical application.

This on-ice development will be reinforced with off-ice training in the form of stickhandling, strength & conditioning training, flexibility, recovery, multi-sport games, nutrition awareness, and video analysis. The result is a daily schedule that coordinates on and off ice training to maximize athletic development.

Character Development

Our student-athletes aren’t only graded in hockey & academic content areas, but also in 5 key “Character Counts” areas: Attitude, Accountability, Focus, Effort & Problem Solving.

Academy Teams

Our Academy teams are comprised of 12U and 14U age groups, competing in the Statewide Florida Hockey League (SFHL). Each season includes 18 league games and, if qualified, a state playoff appearance. In addition, teams participate in 5-8 tournaments annually, both local and out of state, with the level of play tailored to the competitive needs of each season.

Prep Hockey Program

At Nest Hockey Academy, we believe that training and development are the most important aspects of hockey at this age level. Our Prep Hockey program features teams in the 15O, 16U, and 18U age divisions, competing in a tournament‑style schedule against Tier 1 teams nationwide. This elite level of competition provides our student‑athletes with exposure to top talent across the country while preparing them for the next stages of their hockey careers.

Nest Hockey Prep players are highly motivated and disciplined, developing not only their skills on the ice but also the essential qualities of leadership, resilience, and teamwork.
